I downloaded the preprint of the announcement, and also noted Natalia Nikolova’s previous paper, “Uniaxial approach to time-domain computations using electromagnetic potentials.” International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields, Volume 17, Issue 3, 2004, Pages 269 – 284.
Looks like they are directly proving out some of the things contained in Maxwell’s actual 1864-5 quaternion theory, that were totally eliminated from the terribly reduced Heaviside equations that were adopted as “Maxwell’s theory” – and quickly chopped down even further by Lorentz who symmetrized the Heaviside equations in 1892 (eliminating all asymmetric Maxwell systems which could accept excess EM energy from the seething vacuum and use it to help power the loads, thus achieving COP>1.0), and who again in 1900 arbitrarily taught everyone a neat little trick to toss out the giant Heaviside curled EM energy flow component, that accompanies every Poynting energy flow component but is more than a trillion times its magnitude.
I hope that at least some of the modern researchers will get back to the quaternion EM theory; as shown by Froning and Barrett, it adds a vast number of capabilities and things that present electrical engineering does not even contain.
One conditioning method is to modulate the polarization of microwave
or laser radiation. The other method the use of contra-wound toroidal
coils through which alternating current is flowing at resonant
frequencies. For either method, electric and magnetic field energy is
accompanied by A-vector potential field energy. This paper described
certain unusual EM effects revealed by experiments with specially
conditioned EM fields. These include: anomalous behavior of
ferromagnetic aerosols when radiated by polarization-modulated laser
light; and standing waves of very high magnetic field gradient that
formed over contra-wound toroidal coils at resonant frequencies.
Note that Barrett is one of the pioneers of ultrawideband radar, which at its inception was said to be impossible, against the laws of physics, etc.
Nicola Tesla was definitely onto this “higher level and much more extensive” electrodynamics.

Indeed, if our scientific
community would just remove the arbitrary Lorentz symmetry condition,
that alone would allow rapid solution of the energy crisis. In the

So let us hope that the new advance sparked by Nikolova and Zimmerman flourishes and re-ignites the interest in higher group symmetry electrodynamics. If we would just correct the hoary old electrical engineering (which contains many known falsities), then the world energy crisis could be solved permanently, cheaply, cleanly, and in very short order.
